Jaleshwari, ambitious and full of confidence, volunteers to take on the responsibility to improve the performance of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program concerning education that is stopped without explanation. She flies into a border area in the interior of Borneo and promises that within two weeks the problems will be solved.
Life in the border have its own pattern. The people have a different view on how to give the meaning to the border line of the country. They inherit the cultural wisdom of the Dayak people who aren’t being ruled by political boundaries. Jaleshwari is trapped with humanitarian issues.
Jaleshwari arrives at the boundaries of choices. The forest and lifestyle of the people make her realize that efforts to improve the people’s lives cannot be separated from the local custom. Jaleshwari understands why Adeus, the teacher who has to run the program, is apathetic. The education program imposed by the company in Jakarta is not in accordance with the wishes of the local people. They prefer to be workers who are promised to be rich by a seller named Otik. One victim is Ubuh, a migrant worker who has fled a neighbour country. Ubuh not only receives protection but also friendliness.
This reality changes Jaleshwari’s views. Adayak, the tribal chieftains, guides her to understand the “language of forests”. Jaleshwari’s steps really very Arif, a state officer stationed in the border region.
