Lentera Merah, a campus magazine run by the students of Universitas Nasional Indonesia (UNI) since 1930, is devoted to being critical of the government, leftist, and on the side of the common people. Risa, a freshman, joins the editorial staff of Lentera Merah in its 50th year. Her appearance immediately catches the attention of Iqbal, the chief editor, and also Wulan, the vice-chief editor who has sixth sense. Risa, with four other students, are chosen to attend the initiation night. Risa’s pale face, her mysterious attitude and the long skirt that she wears clues the audience to the fact that she is the ghost. The film doesn’t intend to hide the ghost’s identity. Later, the death of Wulan strengthens the case that Risa is the ghost. Since the beginning, Wulan had disliked Risa. Risa’s father, Sakiman, is a common farmer who was accused of communism. This caused Risa to be excommunicated like her father. The communism subplot makes the film unique from other ghost-themed films.
